Laurie Wenneman and Cathy Russell, former school employees, followed their passions for tea, cooking, and entertaining when they bought the Hawthorn Tea Room in Old Town Tacoma in March 2007. They reopened the tea room after extensive remodeling and have been serving made-from-scratch lunches and afternoon teas in a casually elegant and friendly atmosphere since April 2007.
Hearty lunches of soup, sandwiches, or salads and delightful afternoon tea sets featuring tea sandwiches, scones, and sweets are served Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, with last seating at 3 pm. Reservations recommended. The Hawthorn Tea Room offers signature high teas for special events such as Mother’s Day and Christmas. It is also ideal for private parties such as bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, and Red Hat gatherings.
The Hawthorn Tea Room boasts a tea menu of over 50 flavors of loose teas, many of which are available for purchase by the ounce. Also available are assorted gifts for the tea lover, including teapots, cups and saucers, tea gadgets, tea brewing systems, and other accessories.
